Operation Formula/Feed the Children
Due to the government shutdown, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, also known as WIC, had discontinued issuing benefits starting at the close of business on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
WNC Humanists, the local chapter of the American Humanist Association, a nonprofit organization, began providing formula and baby food to those in the Western North Carolina area whose needs were no longer being met with the freezing of WIC benefits.
North Carolina was the only state that froze these benefits.
Within a few days, and after pressure, monies were found to continue WIC benefits.
What we at WNC Humanists discovered during that period was that there were many families still in need. People that had fallen through the cracks.
We are continuing to accept donations and we have expanded our base. We will accept monetary and goods donations. We strive to make sure no one, especially children, go hungry in our region.
In addition to food, we also accept coats, clothing, vehicles, property, anything you have to give we will find a worthy home for.
If you or someone you know is in need of assistance please contact WNC Humanists at OperationFormula@WNCHumanists. org or
(828) 329-5190. We will make the arrangements.
Want to help? Make a donation via PayPal, or you can call us and we will collect your donations. ALL proceeds go to those in need. Our program is strictly volunteer, no one collects a paycheck.
Help us better our community!
Any remaining formula, baby food, or monies after the WIC offices re-open will be distributed to families in need in WNC.
